Cambridge MBA student makes the final of the Women of the Future Awards 2012

Cambridge Judge Business School is pleased to congratulate Vaithegi Vasanthakumar on reaching the final of the 2012 Women of the Future Awards.

Vaithegi was shortlisted for the MBA Star category – which recognises a female MBA student of exceptional vision, talent and promise – after having started a small pilot venture in Sri Lanka in September.

Under the name TradeRoots, the initiative focuses on female artisans to provide them with the requisite skills to become successful small business entrepreneurs through enriching business mentorship opportunities. They will then have the opportunity to sell their products to an international market under the TradeRoots brand, with the ultimate purpose being that entrepreneurs are self-empowered with the knowledge to branch out and seek their own market opportunities.

Vaithegi, who completed her MBA at Cambridge Judge Business School in 2012, commented:

It was an honour to be nominated for the Women of the Future Awards and although it is still early days, I hope the TradeRoots pilot will be a big success.”

Margaret O’Neill, Career Development Manager at Cambridge Judge Business School, commented:

This was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the real impact that women are making across industries and sectors and we are so proud of Vaithegi as she is a great role model for young business women. It was a pleasure to be with her at the ceremony and share her success.”

Now in its seventh year, the Women of the Future Awards, in association with Shell, were created to discover and recognise the stars of tomorrow across diverse industries, and to celebrate high achieving women, aged 35 and under, who are inspirational in their professions.

Categories include: Business Woman of the Future; Professional Women of the Future; Woman of the Future in the Arts, Media and Culture; Entrepreneur of the Future; Woman of the Future in Science and Technology; Woman of the Future in Public Service and the MBA Star Award.

The awards ceremony took place on 20 November at the London Marriott Hotel Grosvenor Square.
