Nearly nine of ten Cambridge Judge submissions ‘world leading’ or ‘internationally excellent’.

Cambridge Judge Business School
Nearly nine out of ten (89 per cent) submissions from Cambridge Judge Business School for the UK’s Research Excellence Framework (REF) have been rated as “world leading” or “internationally excellent.”

Sixty percent of the submissions by Cambridge Judge were awarded the highest rating of 4* overall, meaning they are “world-leading in terms of originality, significance and rigour.” A further 29 per cent of Cambridge Judge submissions were rated 3* overall (“internationally excellent”).

Commenting on the results, Cambridge Judge Director Christoph Loch said:

We are very pleased that such an overwhelming number of the School’s submissions were rated so highly in the category of Business and Management Studies. Research is one of the cornerstones of Cambridge Judge, so we are grateful to be recognised for our achievement in this area.

The REF assesses the quality and impact of research submitted by UK universities across all disciplines. The results will be used by the four UK higher education funding bodies to allocate block-grant research funding to universities from 2015-16. It was previously known as the Research Assessment Exercise (RAE), and was last conducted in 2008.

For the purpose of the REF, each academic discipline was assigned to one of 32 out of a possible 36 units of assessment, with Cambridge Judge being assigned to the Business and Management Studies unit. Each unit was judged by three criteria – Outputs, Environment and, for the first time, Impact (defined as “an effect on, change or benefit to the economy, society, culture, public policy or services, health, the environment or quality of life, beyond academia”).
