“Smart beta” factors are now among the investment industry’s biggest earners, writes John Authers in the FT. Most popular factors, including value, size, low-risk, momentum and income, have been recently tested in a report co-authored by Professor Elroy Dimson, Chairman of the Newton Centre for Endowment Asset Management at Cambridge Judge. The report entitled The Credit Suisse Global Investment Returns Yearbook 2017 looks at returns on equities, bonds, bills and other assets for the 117-year period from 1900 through last year.
