Christos PitelisDr Christos Pitelis, Director of the Centre for International Business and Management (CIBAM) at Cambridge Judge Business School, participated in a high-profile conference in Beijing, discussing global value chains.

The conference took place on 19-20 September and was titled ‘Global Value Chain in the 21st Century: Policy Implications on Trade, Investment, Statistics and Developing Countries’. It was organised by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), the World Trade Organization (WTO) and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), in partnership with the Government of China, specifically the Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM).

The conference was presided over by H.E. Mr Chen Deming, Minister of Commerce, and commenced with a keynote speech by H.E. Mr Wang Qishan, Vice Premier of China. The Secretary-Generals of UNCTAD and OECD, as well as the Director-General of the WTO,  gave introductory speeches, underlining the importance of the topic, as well as the significance placed on this event as a lens for future developments of relevance to both business and policy makers.

Dr Pitelis’s presentation focused on the cross-border operations of Trans-national Corporations (TNCs), Global Value Chains (GVCs) and Developmental Industrial Policies (DIPs).
