Professor Elroy Dimson, co-director of the Centre for Endowment Asset Management at Cambridge Judge Business School, has accepted the position of Chairman of the FTSE Policy Group, the most senior position within the FTSE Governance Committees. The Group is a world-leader in the provision of global index and analytical solutions and calculates indices across a wide range of asset classes, on both a standard and custom basis.

Professor Dimson, who was involved in setting up FTSE’s first index in 1984, is already chairman of the Academic Advisory Board for FTSE Group. In his new role, he replaces David Hobbs who has chaired the Policy Group since March 2010.

Mark Makepeace, Chief Executive Officer of FTSE, said:

I am personally delighted that Professor Dimson has agreed to take this senior position within the FTSE Committee structure. His extensive experience and knowledge of investment management issues will help FTSE to continue to develop its strong governance and innovative approach to indexing. We are also very lucky to have had David Hobbs to lead FTSE’s Policy Group for the past three years and hope that he will continue to advise us going forward. I would like to thank David for his contributions over that time.”

On taking up this additional position, Professor Dimson said:

This new role provides exciting opportunities to ensure FTSE index series meet the needs of users and are constructed and managed to the highest standard of governance.”
