Evening Standard: We need EU to curb our ‘elective dictatorship’

Anthony Hilton writes about EU laws and why they are important in a light of Brexit debate. Professor Simon Deakin, director of the Centre for Business Research at Cambridge Judge Business School, argues that Brexit would make Britain less, not more, democratic than it currently is. “Membership of the EU is the nearest thing the UK has to a constitution which protects human rights and the primacy of the rule of law,” he says.
