The awards were initiated in 1994 by Sir Alastair Pilkington in order to raise the profile of teaching within the University. The awards are granted to those “who believed that the quality of teaching was crucial to the University’s success,” said the announcement of this year’s winners.

Jochen joins a dozen other 2017 winners from other University departments including Physics, Classics, Zoology and Clinical Medicine in this year’s Pilkington Prize list.

The prizes are awarded annually by the Vice-Chancellor of the University to individuals who make a substantial contribution to the teaching programme of a Department, Faculty or the University as a whole.

Previous winners of the Pilkington Prize among current or former faculty members at Cambridge Judge include Simon Taylor, Michael Kitson, Simon Learmount, Gishan Dissanaike, Philip Stiles, and Richard Barker.
