Congratulations to Executive MBA participant Alessandro de Nicola (EMBA 2017), who was named Italy’s “Lawyer of the Year” for Corporate Consultancy at the 2018 ‘Legalcommunity’ Corporate Awards in June 2018.

The awards are organised by digital information tool ‘Legalcommunity’, and recognise practitioner excellence within the Italian legal sector. Alessandro was noted by Legalcommunity for his “vision of the market and an unquestioned ability to interpret the trends.”

“Receiving this accolade has been an honour for me,” says Alessandro, “especially considering that the winners were selected and evaluated by a jury representing prestigious Italian and international companies and market leaders.”

Alessandro is a Senior Partner and Member of the Board for Orrick, Herrington and Sutcliffe, joining in 2003 after 10 years as a Managing Director at Ernst & Young Law. He set up Orrick’s first Italian offices, helping to set a precedent for Italian firms to adopt UK and US-style business models.

“I believe business lawyers in Italy have benefitted tremendously from this change, because it has allowed them to achieve, within a decade or so, a professional model more suitable for them to compete internationally.”

Alessandro is currently studying for an Executive MBA at Cambridge Judge School, joining the programme in September 2017. “I started an EMBA because I felt that I needed a more formal education on subjects such as business and economics. Besides lawyering, I am involved in the management of my firm and am a member of several company boards, so I can see myself applying what I’ve been learning to my day-to-day professional life.”

“The programme not only suits my interests, but has exactly the kind of flexibility I need to continue my job.”

Alessandro is no stranger to the University of Cambridge, earning his LLM at the University before returning to study for a PhD in Law and Economics between 2005 and 2007.
