Daniel Morales, a student on the Cambridge MBA programme at Cambridge Judge Business School, scooped the top award in a startup competition in Germany.

Daniel and Maria Teresa Perez Zaballos pitched their idea to the Jacobs Startup Competition jury and were awarded the prize of 3,000 euros. Their startup MyCornea aims to reduce the time people need to wait for a cornea transplant, which can take up to two years. MyCornea have developed a process for artificial cornea manufacturing that could reduce the waiting time to just six weeks.

Jacobs Startup Competition is for student entrepreneurs who have a business idea and need mentoring and guidance for starting a venture. In total, 138 teams of students from Europe and North America entered the competition this year. After three rounds, the best 11 teams were selected and were allocated a personal mentor who helps with the final presentation – with the criteria revolving around the feasibility of the idea and its potential.
