Lessons in class and on the pitch

University of Cambridge Judge Business School summer programme for Chinese teenagers, in partnership with Cambridge United Football Club, returns this year for second season.

Cambridge Judge Business School in the summer

The University of Cambridge Judge Business School Summer Programme for teenage Chinese students, delivered in partnership with Cambridge United Football Club, will return to Cambridge this summer for a second season following a successful inaugural programme in 2017.

Last July, 34 Chinese students enjoyed a unique programme at Cambridge Judge Business School, learning English as a foreign language through leadership lessons, football training sessions and cultural activities. Accommodation in student rooms at Sidney Sussex College ensured the participants had an authentic Cambridge experience.

Professor Christoph Loch, Director of Cambridge Judge Business School, said the programme “effectively develops leadership skills and English language ability by combining the practice of sport with personal development workshops and English classes.”

It is clear from the students’ own thoughts that they believe the same:

Swift, 15, says: “I learnt a lot and it was a very pleasant time for me. It helped me to improve my spoken English and vocabulary. Not only did I improve my English, but I also gained a lot of practical leadership knowledge. It’s the best combination of learning and entertainment.”

Sam, 13, says:

The programme helped me to blend into the real life of the Cambridge students, and gave me an opportunity to improve my leadership capabilities. I met many people and made many friends. Before the programme, I always got a bit nervous when I talked to English-speakers. The programme wiped this out!

This summer, the programme will be extended in order to invite many more ambitious Chinese students to share a unique experience in Cambridge.
