A book about military surgeons in Afghanistan by Mark de Rond, Professor of Organisational Ethnography at Cambridge Judge Business School, received an Honourable Mention in the Outstanding Qualitative Book Award category at the 14th International Congress of Qualitative Inquiry (pdf).

Mark’s book – Doctors at war: Life and death in a field hospital – was published last year by Cornell University Press. The book reflected Mark’s research on high-performing teams, including six weeks of fieldwork in 2011 at Camp Bastion in Afghanistan.

The award was announced 19 May at the conference at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. This year’s conference theme was “Qualitative Inquiry in Troubled Times”.
