The Royal Institute of British Architects today (27 June) announced that the Simon Sainsbury Centre at Cambridge Judge Business School, designed by architects Stanton Williams, was selected as one of the 54 best new buildings in the UK.

The 2019 RIBA National Award winners were chosen from the RIBA Regional Award winners determined earlier this year, when the Simon Sainsbury Centre won the RIBA East Award 2019.

The Simon Sainsbury Centre added more than 5,000 square metres of teaching, meeting and dining space at Cambridge Judge Business School, and adjoins the School’s iconic Addenbrooke’s building. The project was supported in part by a generous donation from the Monument Trust, whose founder Simon Sainsbury was also one of the School’s original benefactors.

“Despite the political and economic challenges of recent years, our 2019 RIBA National Award winners show that UK architecture is highly adaptable, immensely talented and as community-focused as ever,” said RIBA President Ben Derbyshire. “Our 2019 RIBA National Award-winning buildings are innovators and mould-breakers – congratulations to every client, architect and construction team for their combined talent and tenacity.”
